As Good As It Gets (1997)

So while I was out of action on Facebook I watched a few movies I hadn’t seen before and a few that I had. This one was the highlight of them all!

As Good As It Gets (1997)

I’d never seen this movie before but it was on Sky TV one afternoon so I put it on.

It’s easily the best film I’ve seen in a while and I felt really frustrated that I couldn’t share it with all of my Facebook followers!

I think the reason I haven’t watched it till now is the same reason I haven’t watched a lot of films, and that’s because other than the title and the main starring actor, I knew very little about it.

If you haven’t seen it, it’s a romantic comedy/drama starring Jack Nicholson (The Shining), Helen Hunt (Twister), Greg Kinnear (You’ve Got Mail) and Cuba Gooding Jr. (Jerry Maguire).

Here’s what it’s about:

A socially inept and seemingly unpleasant writer with a serious case of OCD (Nicholson) is forced out of his comfort zone and daily routine when he reluctantly agrees to help his neighbour (Kinnear) after he’s assaulted in a robbery.

Along with his neighbour and a straight talking waitress and single mother (Hunt), he embarks on a road trip that could potentially change all of their lives.

Needless to say Jack Nicholson is fantastic and utterly hilarious in this film!

If you’re easily offended though this might not be for you since there are quite a few homophobic, racial and sexist slurs. It’s all part of the story and Nicholson’s character arc though and it makes sense as the film goes on.

I know I’m a bit late to the party with this one but I absolutely recommend this movie if like me you’ve made it this long without watching it!

Have you seen it? What do you think? 🤔
