Now & Then: Jamie Lee Curtis

This week’s Now & Then actor is the ultimate scream queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis.

Halloween (1978) and The Fog (1980) are two of my all time favourite horror films! Both were co-written and directed by John Carpenter and both star Jamie Lee Curtis. Coincidence...? 🤔

She’s a great actress with a career that spans many genres and six decades!

Daughter of Janet Leigh (Psycho) and Tony Curtis (Spartacus) Jamie Lee Curtis is also the Godmother of Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko).

She married actor Christopher Guest (This is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride) in 1984 after seeing him in an issue of Rolling Stone magazine, dressed in full costume and makeup as a rock star. She told her friend Debra Hill (lifelong collaborator of John Carpenter), “Oh, I’m going to marry that guy”, and sure enough they were married five months later.

As well as being a successful actress she’s a published author and has written a number of children’s books.

Personally I’ll always think of her as Laurie Strode from Halloween, but she’s played some great characters in a lot of great films as well as giving me one of my favourite Christmas movies, Christmas with the Kranks (2004).

These are my top Jamie Lee Curtis film recommendations:

Halloween (1978)

The Fog (1980)

Trading Places (1983)

A Fish Called Wanda (1988)

Forever Young (1992)

True Lies (1994)

Halloween H20 (1998)

Christmas with the Kranks (2004)

Halloween (2018)

Knives Out (2019)

What’s your favourite Jamie Lee Curtis movie? 🤔
