I’ve found myself re-watching a lot of older films recently. It’s unsurprising I suppose, there’s a seemingly never ending supply of them and it’s great to revisit good films that have a certain nostalgic value.
This is one of those films for me and easily one of my favourite comedies of all time.
Road Trip (2000)
I hadn’t seen this movie for a good few years and I was pleased to find that it’s just as funny and entertaining as the last time I watched it.
If you haven’t seen it, it’s a brilliant comedy co-written and directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover trilogy, Joker).
It stars Breckin Meyer (Rat Race), Seann William Scott (American Pie), Amy Smart (The Butterfly Effect), Tom Green (Freddy Got Fingered) and Fred Ward (Tremors) among many others.
This is what it’s about:
Believing his long distance relationship with his girlfriend is over, Josh (Meyer) sleeps with another girl (Smart) at a college party and films it. But when his roommate accidentally posts the sex tape to Josh’s girlfriend the next day, a group of friends embark on a 1,800 mile journey across America in an attempt to intercept it before it reaches her.
I absolutely love this movie! It never ceases to crack me up no matter how many times I watch it (and I’ve watched it a lot!)
I think one of the things that makes it so re-watchable for me is the fact that, as a guy I can relate in some way or another to each of the characters. I also love the camaraderie between them. Also, the idea of going on a spontaneous, fun filled road trip with my best friends is one of the best things I can think of, even now at 41 years of age! 🙌
From Tom Green’s character, Barry singing “Tiny salmon swimming in a stream” and Seann William Scott’s, character, E.L’s anally induced ejaculation at the sperm bank, to meeting Barry’s grandparents and Kyle (DJ Qualls) making a big impression at a black fraternity, this film is chock full of hilarious moments!
As if all that weren’t enough its hugely quotable and it’s got a great soundtrack with songs by bands like the Eels, Supergrass and Twisted Sister!
I’ve read some scathing reviews about this movie and all I can think is that some people literally have no sense of humour. 😵
I always try to be open to people’s different tastes and their individual opinions of films but honestly, if you don’t like this movie, you’re wrong (yeah I said it). 🤷♂️
If you somehow haven’t seen Road Trip and like a good comedy where pretty much anything goes, do me and yourself a favour and give this a watch. It’s currently streaming on Netflix.
Seen it? I dare you to say you don’t like it…😵
